Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Zine?
A zine, short for fanzine or fan-magazine, is a fan-published and unofficial collection of artwork and writing with optional additional merchandise.

What rating will this zine be?
This zine is rated PG-13.

Will this zine be for sale?
Nope! This is a free digital zine, so it will be produced entirely digitally and released for free at the end of the creation and formatting periods.

Will this zine have digital merch available?
No, in the interest of keeping this project low-stress for the mod team, we will be focusing our efforts on page art, written stories, and featuring alternative creators such as cosplayers, chefs, crafters, and more!

What Mummy media will be featured?
Anything from The Mummy series will be featured in the zine! This includes The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001), The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), The Scorpion King (2002), and The Mummy: The Animated Series (2001-2003)

Will this zine feature shipping content?
We will be keeping everything to canon-compliant relationships! Ships such as Rick/Evie and Imhotep/Anck-Su-Namun will be allowed.

How will contributors be compensated for their time/work?
As this is a free digital zine, all contributors will receive a copy of all material produced when it is released to the public!

How old do I have to be to apply?
Applicants must be 16 years or older by the application deadline to be considered. This means anyone younger than 16 must have a birthday before January 7, 2024.

- While we understand that life happens and will try to be flexible with allowing extensions, our final submission deadline of April 24, 2024 is a hard deadline. If we do not have your piece in by midnight PST on that date, we will be unable to include it in the zine.

- Written pieces may be a fictional story in the writers’ genre of choice, or a meta piece discussing The Mummy franchise.
- Written pieces will be given feedback by Mod Shrapnel at each check-in to discuss developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing. Writers will have the option to participate in deep-dive discussions of their pieces with Mod Shrapnel and with one another throughout creation period.
Alt Creators
- Alt Creator applicants will submit links to three samples of their best work and a portfolio.
- Alt Creators will be expected to create 1-2 pieces in their preferred medium.
- Accepted alt creation types include, but are not limited to: cosplay, yarncrafts, music, recipes, and papercrafts
